As a community, we unite against bullying of any form by naming our Searchlight Ambassadors. We have had an overwhelming response from students with over 100 volunteering. A Searchlight council of 10 students has been selected from our volunteers who work with Mr Scott and the Year 11 Student Leaders to stand against bullying.
Year 7 Student Council
The Year 7 Student Council meet every Monday Week A during lunch time. Here students discuss any issues they have and ideas they have which can help the St Michael's community. The council have organised a bake sale for Cancer Research and created Christmas Cards for care homes.
Our Y10 Language Ambassadors have been busy promoting languages in the Academy by delivering a whole school assembly to our Y7, 8 and 9. The students led events for European Day of Languages in September. At Halloween, they organised some activities to our Y7 and 8 in both French and Spanish.
The Big Big Project
The Big Big Project is led by engineering firm Jacobs, to help raise awareness of the STEM agenda and boost relationships between schools, pupils and their would-be employers.
Following its success last year, the Tees Valley Mayor and Combined Authority got involved to bring it to other schools via TeesValleyCareers.com and broaden its scope.
This year six students from ten Tees Valley schools have been given a business mentor and challenged to find solutions to ‘level up’ their local area. These goals include increasing foot flow through town centres, better transport links and raising awareness of local cultural attractions.
Our 6 students have already had their first meeting and are excited and ready to get started with our business mentor from Enginuity.
