Subject Background:

Welcome to the English curriculum information zone.

At KS3, students will study a range of different texts from across a variety of genres in order to introduce them to a diverse range of literature. Students will read poetry, prose, plays and non-fiction texts in order for them to become familiar with the writer’s craft and the skills that writers employ. They will then practice applying these skills to their own writing. At KS3, we also encourage a love of reading by having a fortnightly library lesson where students can read for pleasure.

At KS4, we follow AQA Language and Literature GCSE specifications. For Literature students will study Macbeth, An Inspector Calls, A Christmas Carol and the Power and Conflict Poetry Cluster.

English is not just about what goes on in the classroom however, it involves many different learning opportunities. Where possible, we offer students the opportunity to take part in theatre trips, we run an annual KS3 trip to London and department staff run several extra-curricular clubs.
