Personal Development at St Michael’s

At St. Michael’s Catholic Academy, our Personal Development programme is at the heart of shaping confident, compassionate, and capable young people. We aim to nurture every student as a whole person—supporting their academic growth, spiritual journey, and personal wellbeing. By encouraging independence, self-discovery, and resilience, we prepare our students not only to succeed in school but to flourish as the leaders of tomorrow.

Our mission is deeply rooted in the words of Micah 6:8:

“Act justly, love tenderly, and walk humbly with your Lord.”

This guiding scripture inspires us to develop young adults who live with integrity, show kindness, and approach life with humility and gratitude.

Act Justly – We instil fairness, responsibility, and respect, encouraging students to make ethical choices and uphold justice.

Love Tenderly – Through kindness, empathy, and compassion, we help students build strong relationships and emotional intelligence.

Walk Humbly with Your Lord – We support students to reflect on their values, remain grounded, and live with purpose and gratitude.

By living out these principles, our students grow not only academically, but also spiritually and emotionally—preparing them to make a positive difference in the world.

Our aims for the Personal Development program are:

To provide all students with the opportunity to explore a variety of cultural capital opportunities, focusing on closing the gap between disadvantaged students and their peers.

To allow students to participate in their own spiritual mission, guided by our Trust virtues of confidence, compassion, resilience, responsibility, respect, self-belief, honesty, and justice.

To enable students bloom into a future generation that contributes to society, guided by British Values.

To support students to aspire, be ambitious, and strive for success.

To ensure students foster and build their own identity, form their own thoughts, and find their own voice.
