Subject Background:
Welcome to the RE curriculum information zone. As part of the Diocese of Hexham & Newcastle, our KS3 curriculum is in line with the Bishops’ Curriculum Directory. This means that we cover a broad range of religious topics from the Catholic and Christian perspective. It also means that we look closely at a number of other world religions that we feel it is important that our pupils are aware of, to help them to better understand the world around them.
At KS4, we follow Eduqas Route B: Catholic Christianity. This enables our students to study the world around them from the Catholic, Christian, Jewish and non-religious viewpoints. If it is felt appropriate, a small number of pupils may be entered for an alternative Entry Level course that covers a broad range of religious and ethical themes.
We encourage reading in RE throughout all year groups by using ‘Guided Reading’ tasks.
RE is not just about what goes on in the classroom, however, it involves many different learning opportunities. We offer all students in Y7-10 the opportunity to take part in retreats. The RE department runs a bi-annual pilgrimage to Rome, open to all students. Participation in reflection activities in the chapel, in class liturgies and Masses, to name just a few of our activities are all keenly encouraged.
