Lunchtime Competition Brings World Cup Excitement to School
Throughout June, Year 7 and Year 8 students at St Michael’s Catholic Academy brought the excitement of the World Cup to the school with a series of lunchtime knockout tournaments.
The competitions were packed with skill, teamwork and dramatic moments, providing plenty of entertainment for players and spectators alike.
Year 7 Crowned Champions
Year 7 kicked off the tournament with three days of exciting knockout fixtures, culminating in a Grand Final between England (7L) and USA (7C).
Following an impressive performance, 7L emerged victorious to lift the trophy and become Year 7 World Cup champions.
Late Drama Secures Year 8 Title
The Year 8 competition was equally thrilling, with Belgium (8I) facing France (8H) in a closely contested final.
Both teams enjoyed strong spells of possession and created numerous opportunities in an exciting match watched by a large crowd. With just one minute remaining, Ethan C (8I) scored a dramatic late winner to secure a 1–0 victory for Belgium and crown 8I as Year 8 World Cup champions.
Celebrating Teamwork and Sportsmanship
A huge thank you goes to Mr Readman for organising the tournament and helping to make the event such a success.
Thank you also to all the students who participated and supported their teams throughout the competition. The sportsmanship, enthusiasm and school spirit displayed across both tournaments helped make the event a memorable experience for everyone involved.
Congratulations to all of the players, finalists and champions on a fantastic tournament.
