Students at St Michael’s Catholic Academy in Billingham enjoyed a fantastic Sports Day, with pupils giving their all as they competed proudly for their houses: Lions, Bulls, Angels and Eagles. The event showcased outstanding determination, teamwork and sportsmanship, with students demonstrating resilience and enthusiasm across a range of sporting activities.
Year 7 and Year 8 Celebrate World Cup Tournament Success
Throughout June, Year 7 and Year 8 students at St Michael’s Catholic Academy brought the excitement of the World Cup to the school with a series of lunchtime knockout tournaments. The competitions were packed with skill, teamwork and dramatic moments, providing plenty of entertainment for players and spectators alike.
St Michael’s Students Show Determination at BHCET Netball Tournament
Students from St Michael’s Catholic Academy took part in the annual BHCET Netball Tournament on Thursday 18 June, hosted by The English Martyrs School in Hartlepool. The tournament brought together teams from across the Trust for both U13 and U15 competitions, providing a fantastic platform for students to demonstrate their skills and passion for netball.

We are incredibly proud of Jack A in Year 10, who recently represented Cleveland Schools in a competitive cricket match against Durham School.

Football Success for St Michael’s Students
We are delighted to celebrate an excellent sporting achievement by two of our students, Daniel and Luka, who continue to represent St Michael’s Catholic Academy with pride both in school and beyond. On Tuesday 21st April, Daniel and Luka competed for the Stockton District Under 15 Football Team in the 2026 U15 Sunderland Children’s Hospital Cup, facing a strong Newcastle District side. Demonstrating teamwork, determination and skill, the Stockton District team secured an impressive 2–0 victory.
Football Success and Strong Determination
Congratulations to the Year 10 football team, who earned an impressive 3–1 win in their recent match. The game featured two superb goals scored directly from corners — an exciting achievement that highlighted the team’s technical ability and confidence.
U15 Netball Match: A Hard‑Fought and Well‑Earned Victory
The U15 Netball team secured a brilliant away win in their recent Stockton Schools’ Netball League fixture at Ian Ramsey. The match began with both sides exchanging goals, keeping the first quarter tight and competitive.
Sports Leaders Shine at the Pirate Festival
Nineteen Sports Leaders travelled to Queen’s Campus to help deliver an exciting Pirate Festival for KS1 children, supported by the Stockton Schools Sports Partnership. The event focused on fun, energetic activities designed to build agility, balance and coordination in younger pupils.
St. Michael’s Triumphs at BHCET Swimming Gala
St. Michael’s Catholic Academy wins the BHCET Swimming Gala 2025 in Hartlepool, showcasing talent, teamwork, and determination. The gala brought together five secondary schools from the Trust for an afternoon of competitive swimming, teamwork, and incredible sportsmanship. From the very first race, the atmosphere was electric - students cheered each other on, showing determination and resilience in every stroke.

Rugby Training with English Martyrs: Building Skills and Team Spirit
St Michael’s and English Martyrs joined forces for a rugby training session and match, building skills and team spirit. Over 25 boys took part in the session, which was expertly delivered by our rugby coach, Colin. The training focused on core techniques, game strategies, and building resilience - essential qualities for success in rugby. After the drills, students put their learning into practice during a friendly match, showcasing determination and sportsmanship throughout.
