Subject Background:
The Travel and Tourism department is committed to inspiring all learners to believe in themselves by achieving success and enjoying their learning journey. Travel and Tourism is a subject for everyone—not just those with prior knowledge or experience—because every learner can develop an appreciation for the world around them and the dynamic industry that supports global travel.
We aim to foster a deep understanding of the travel and tourism sector, encouraging students to explore destinations, customer service, and the economic and cultural impact of tourism. Through engaging and practical learning experiences, we help students build confidence, develop essential skills, and take ownership of their learning.
Our goal is to ensure that every student works to the best of their ability and gains maximum enjoyment and satisfaction from their studies. The subject encourages individual responses and personal development, which are valued equally when students give their best effort. In a supportive, well-structured, and stimulating environment, learners’ interest, ability, and aspirations grow.
At Key Stage 4, the Pearson BTEC Level 1/2 Award in Travel and Tourism provides a broad and balanced curriculum. Students gain a wide range of knowledge, understanding, and vocational skills across key areas such as travel destinations, customer needs, and the role of organisations within the industry. Each unit is carefully planned to build on prior learning and ensure clear progression throughout the course.
Learners are encouraged to explore real-world scenarios, investigate current trends, and develop transferable skills such as communication, research, and teamwork. They also gain insight into the historical, social, and economic factors that shape the travel and tourism industry. Assessment focuses on both knowledge and practical application, including research tasks, scenario-based activities, and project work.
