St Michael’s Catholic Academy, Billingham is proud to share the incredible experience our Year 9 students had on their recent trip to Beamish Museum. This visit wasn’t just a day out—it was a hands-on journey into the past that brought history to life in the most inspiring way.

Exploring the Fight for Women’s Rights

During the trip, our students took part in an engaging Suffragette workshop, where they learned about the courageous fight for women’s rights over a century ago. They explored authentic historical artefacts, discovered the stories behind the movement, and even experienced what activism looked like in the early 1900s.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

This workshop gave our students a unique opportunity to:

  • Understand the significance of the Suffragette movement.

  • See real artefacts that shaped history.

  • Participate in interactive activities that made the past feel real and relevant.

It was an unforgettable way to deepen their understanding of social change and equality.

Proud Moments

We are incredibly proud of our Year 9 students for their enthusiasm and excellent representation of St Michael’s Catholic Academy throughout the day. Their curiosity and respect shone through, making this trip a true success.
