At St. Michael’s Catholic Academy, we believe in giving our students opportunities that go beyond the classroom - and yesterday’s Mighty Mussels workshop was a perfect example. Delivered through the Fish Heroes initiative, this hands-on session introduced students to the fascinating world of shellfish, sustainability, and healthy eating.

Thanks to a generous delivery of fresh mussels, our students learned where shellfish come from, their role in the marine ecosystem, and why they’re considered a sustainable source of protein. The workshop also covered essential skills such as safe preparation and cooking techniques, giving students confidence in the kitchen while promoting healthy lifestyle choices.

This experience wasn’t just about food - it was about understanding the journey from sea to plate and the importance of making informed choices about what we eat.
One student commented, “I never realised how easy it was to cook mussels - and they taste amazing!”

We’re proud to offer enrichment activities that inspire curiosity and practical skills. A big thank you to Fish Heroes and everyone who made this event possible. Keep an eye on our news page for more exciting opportunities coming soon!
