A Fascinating Visit From UK Parliament Outreach
Year 8 students at St Michael’s Catholic Academy in Billingham were treated to an inspiring set of workshops delivered by Gillian Bell, North East Outreach Officer for UK Parliament. Her sessions were packed with engaging activities that helped students gain a deeper understanding of Parliament, democracy and how British Values shape our society.
Understanding How Their Voices Make a Difference
Pupils explored how laws are made, how debates work and why democracy relies on active participation. The workshops encouraged them to reflect on the power of their own voices - not just in school, but as future citizens.
Linking Learning Across Subjects
A highlight of the visit was a workshop on speeches and manifestos, perfectly tied to their English topic Powerful Voices. Students shared thoughtful ideas, crafted persuasive messages and had fantastic discussions that showed maturity and insight.
A Huge Thank You
A big thank you to Gillian Bell for delivering such interactive, thought‑provoking sessions. She truly helped bring democracy off the page and into real life, inspiring the next generation of confident, informed young people.
