Twelve students from Years 8 and 9 at St Michael's Catholic Academy recently attended a Sports Leaders Training event at Queen's Campus in Stockton, where they developed valuable leadership skills and gained practical experience working with younger pupils.

The training provided students with the knowledge and confidence to become effective sports leaders within school and the wider community.

Learning What Makes a Great Leader

Throughout the day, pupils explored the key qualities needed to lead successful sporting activities and inspire others to participate.

They learned how to plan, organise and deliver engaging activities while developing important leadership skills such as communication, teamwork and responsibility.

Putting Skills into Practice

One of the highlights of the training was the opportunity for students to apply what they had learned by delivering activities to Year 3 pupils from local primary schools.

This hands-on experience gave participants valuable insight into leading groups and supporting younger children in a positive and encouraging way.

Building Confidence for the Future

The event helped students gain confidence while expanding their understanding of leadership through sport.

Staff were impressed by the maturity and enthusiasm shown throughout the programme and look forward to seeing the students use their new skills in future opportunities across the academy.

A huge thank you goes to the organisers for delivering such an informative and inspiring training experience.
